What Is a Brow Lift?

A brow lift, or forehead lift, restores a youthful appearance to the upper face. This procedure concentrates specifically on the soft tissue over the eyes: the eyebrows and forehead. During a brow lift, excess skin is removed, sagging is corrected, deep creases are smoothed, and contours are refreshed.

Sagging brows can cause you to convey the wrong emotions. You may look saddened, angry, or tired, even if you aren’t feeling that way. Lifting the brows restores your youthful appearance, helping you to look happier, more vibrant, and refreshed. Although a brow lift treats the upper third of the face, patients often see improvement in their overall facial appearance from the balance it brings to their facial features.

Brow Lift Surgery at Connecticut Facial Plastic Surgery - What to Expect

Brow Lift Recovery

Our brow lift patients can recover in the comfort of their own homes. After surgery, you’ll spend one to two hours in our recovery area before returning home. Make sure you arrange for someone to drive you and stay with you for a couple of days. We’ll call that night to make sure you’re doing well, and you’ll come to our office for a follow-up check a day or two later.

Bandaging may be used after a brow lift, but not always. If we use bandaging, we’ll remove it one to three days after your procedure. Sutures are removed about a week after surgery. Patients can resume hair washing after a few days.

Bruising, swelling, and minor discomfort are common and expected. Most patients won’t need prescription pain medications, although we do provide them if needed. You may feel numbness or itching around the incision site.

Most patients return to work after two weeks. Visible signs of surgery are usually gone in about three weeks. Limit strenuous activities for several weeks, until you’re cleared to resume these activities by your surgeon.

Many of our patients are pleasantly surprised by the ease of their recovery experience after a brow lift. We’re always available if you have any concerns. Please get in touch if you experience any unexpected symptoms or if you’re not healing as expected.

Questions are a normal part of preparing for any facial plastic surgery procedure. The good news is, we love questions. You’ll find answers to some common questions about brow lift surgery below. Don’t see your queries here? Come in for a consultation, and we’ll answer any questions you may have.

Most patients describe a tightness sensation after surgery with limited discomfort. The majority of patient do not require anything more than Tylenol for post-surgical soreness. Select patients may require narcotic pain medication, but rarely is this needed for more than a few days.

A brow lift provides long-lasting effects. Your results will depend on your anatomy, genetics, environment, and lifestyle. Often, the procedure improves appearance for a lifetime. Ask us about non-surgical treatments to maintain your results.

A brow lift is often performed in conjunction with other facial plastic surgery procedures, such as a facelift or neck lift. Complementary non-surgical procedures including Botox, chemical peels, and dermal fillers can enhance and maintain your results. Surgeries often combined with a brow lift include facelift surgery and blepharoplasty (eyelid lift)

If you’re thinking about a brow lift but aren’t sure if it is right for you, come in for a consultation. We would love to discuss the procedure in more depth with you. At a consultation, we’ll discuss your goals and reservations, ensuring we create a treatment plan which will be safe and effective for you.
