After years of dealing with congestion I finally made an appointment with Dr. Seeley in May. He was kind, friendly and knowledgeable from the minute I met him. In September Dr. Seeley and his team preformed the balloon sinuplasty procedure on me, which has been successful! Even though I struggled a bit with the procedure, they were so gentle and kind throughout. Follow ups have been great and quick and the whole team is friendly and nice. I actually enjoy coming in to my appointments! Thank you Dr. Seeley and team!!

My experience going to see Dr. Brook Seeley and getting a procedure was honestly the best experience I’ve ever had! From his staff at the desk, to Kim the coordinator, all the way up to Dr. Seelwy himself, I had a great experience even though I was so nervous and not knowing what to expect. He was so beyond professional, kind, friendly, and took all the time in the world to explain everything step by step, answering each and every one of my questions, and not pushing me to get the procedure or any of that fluff that other doctors do. It was an amazing experience. Thank you Dr. Seeley.

The Many Uses of Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are a versatile and effective treatment option for facial aging. We use them from the brow to the chin and everywhere in between. Skillfully injected fillers provide natural-looking rejuvenation and enhancement. At CT Facial Plastic Surgery, top uses for injectable dermal fillers include:

  • Smoothing smile lines (nasolabial folds), the lines that extend from the nose to the corners of the mouth
  • Filling marionette lines, vertical wrinkles that extend down from the corners of the mouth
  • Augmenting the lips
  • Softening lip lines and smoker’s lines on and around the lip area
  • Cheek dermal fillers restore lost cheek volume and enhance the cheek contours
  • Freshening your appearance by filling the tear troughs that form under the eyes
  • Enhancing and extending results from surgical procedures like a facelift

We carry a full line of filler products, including Juvéderm®, Restylane®, and Radiesse®. Each filler is formulated differently, offering unique advantages and working best for specific treatment applications. We’ll discuss options and work with you to choose the dermal filler, or fillers, that will provide the most natural-looking results.

Types of Dermal Fillers: Hyaluronic Acid Fillers vs. Other Injectables

Many dermal fillers (the Juvéderm® and Restylane® families of filler) contain hyaluronic acid (HA fillers). A substance naturally found in the skin. The name says acid, but HA fillers are very gentle and moisturizing. Hyaluronic acid molecules are excellent at holding water, which helps to hydrate and plump the skin.

Hyaluronic acid levels decrease with age. Our injectable fillers can provide additional hyaluronic acid to the skin, restoring a youthful skin appearance. Each of the HA fillers we offer contains differing formulations and consistencies of the active ingredient. These variations allow your surgeon to choose a formulation with an ideal consistency for each area treated. Hyaluronic Acid fillers have the added benefit of being incredibly safe as they can be dissolved with hyaluronidase in the rare event it’s needed.

In addition to our HA fillers, we also offer Radiesse®. This filler is composed of calcium hydroxyapatite microspheres suspended in a gel solution. This one-of-a-kind filler formulation acts as a scaffolding under the skin. Although used less frequently than HA products, Radiesse® is an excellent option for areas that require more lift like the jawline, chin, and cheeks.

Which dermal filler option is best for you, one of our hyaluronic acid fillers or Radiesse®? It depends on your treatment goal, your budget, your lifestyle, and specific skin concerns. Schedule a consultation so we can discuss options.

What to Expect from Dermal Filler Treatment in Farmington & Hartford, CT

We offer different types of dermal fillers in both our locations, Farmington, CT, and Avon, CT. While some plastic surgery practices use nurses and other non-physician-trained staff to administer injectables, our surgeons always perform these treatments themselves. We know the best results come from a highly trained and experienced injector. Our facial plastic surgeons have mastered the art of injectable fillers, and their experience, combined with their deep understanding of facial anatomy, ensures the best possible results from each treatment.

We start each injectable treatment with a consultation. You’ll sit down one-on-one with one of the doctors. We’ll ask about your goals for treatment and have you point out your biggest facial aesthetic concerns. We’ll talk about the injectable treatments we offer, explaining the risks and benefits of each option. Together, we’ll choose the best injectables for your treatment.

Before injecting the dermal fillers, a topical numbing treatment is applied to the skin. Fine needles are used to inject the chosen filler into specific facial locations. A typical treatment involves a series of injections. This allows us to administer a small amount of filler, spread over the larger treatment area for a smoother result. Once we start injecting, the process usually takes less than 15 to 20 minutes.

Recovery After Dermal Fillers

After the dermal fillers are injected, patients can return to work or home immediately. No downtime is necessary and patients may immediately resume their normal lifestyle. We, however, recommend avoiding strenuous activities and excessive sun or heat exposure for the first 24-48 hours to minimize swelling and bruising. Ice packs can be applied to the treated area to reduce swelling. Results are visible immediately after the swelling subsides.

Ideal Candidate for Dermal Filler Treatment

Ideal candidates for dermal filler treatments are individuals looking to address signs of aging, such as loss of facial volume, wrinkles, and fine lines, without undergoing surgical procedures. Candidates should be in good overall health, have realistic expectations about the outcomes, and not have any active skin infections or allergies to filler components.

Benefits of Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers offer numerous benefits for facial rejuvenation, including:

  • Immediate results with instant volume and reduction of lines and wrinkles.
  • Minimal downtime allows patients to return to their daily activities shortly after treatment.
  • Treatments can be tailored to meet the specific needs and goals of each patient.
  • Most hyaluronic acid-based fillers can be dissolved if desired, offering peace of mind to those new to cosmetic treatments.

Risks and Side Effects

While dermal fillers are generally safe, as with any cosmetic treatment, there are potential risks and side effects, including infection, an allergic reaction, and unevenness or lumps which can often be corrected or will resolve over time. Our team takes every precaution to minimize risks and ensure the safety and satisfaction of our patients.

Dermal Fillers vs Botox

Although both treatments involve injections, Botox is a botulinum toxin that relaxes muscle movement to reduce wrinkles and fine lines. Dermal fillers do not affect muscles but will add volume to underlying tissue structure to plump out and smooth over wrinkles and fine lines.

Facial dermal fillers are a cornerstone of non-surgical facial rejuvenation, offering a versatile solution for addressing cosmetic facial aging. At Connecticut Facial Plastic Surgery, our board-certified surgeons utilize dermal fillers near me to restore lost volume, and smooth lines, and enhance facial contours, providing natural-looking rejuvenation from brow to chin.

Dermal Filler FAQs

Hyaluronic acid fillers, like Restylane® and Juvéderm®, can be dissolved by using the enzyme hyaluronidase. This product will break down the active ingredient and speed up the body’s ability to clear the hyaluronic acid naturally.

Different dermal fillers produce different results. At your consultation at Connecticut Facial Plastic Surgery, we tailor a treatment plan specifically for you. This customized approach will consider your individual needs and goals that may include:

  • Increase hydration to the neck, face, or décolletage
  • Smooth facial lines on the forehead or lower face
  • Soften vertical lines around the mouth and chin area
  • Add volume to the chin and cheek area
  • Minimize scars
  • Define lips
  • Restore facial volume

Many of our patients find their procedure at Connecticut Facial Plastic Surgery more comfortable than expected, and many fillers contain an anesthetic such as lidocaine. Our certified injectors are highly skilled and precise; you should only feel a slight sting during the treatment.

The cost of dermal fillers varies depending on the type of filler used and the amount needed to achieve the desired results. During your consultation, we will provide a personalized treatment plan and cost estimate.

When administered by a board-certified plastic surgeon, dermal fillers are safe. Our surgeons have extensive experience with injectable treatments, ensuring the highest safety standards are met to reduce the occurrence of potential risks.

Patients may experience mild discomfort during the injection, but we use numbing cream to minimize any pain. The procedure is quick, and discomfort is typically brief.

No, dermal fillers are not permanent. The longevity of the results depends on the type of filler used, the area treated, and the individual’s metabolism. Hyaluronic acid fillers, for example, can last from 6 months to 2 years.
